1 DAY IN CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES

Hello my Nomad Traveler Friends!

The Nomad Travels to the sunny island of Cebu City!!! On this entry, Me & bf stayed in Cebu for 1 day only. How we spent that day and where we had our over night? Read more!

CEBU CITY is the capital city of Cebu and is the second city of The Philippines being center of Metro Cebu. The city is located at the Eastern Shore of Cebu Island. It is the first Spanish settlement and the oldest city in the Philippines.

According to history, Ferdinand Magellan landed in Cebu on April 7, 1521 and with his threats of foreign occupation, he was killed at the Battle of Mactan after. Quite a colorful history actually. The Spanish invasion did not end with the death of Magellan.

Anyways, moving forward!

HOW TO GET THERE???

Whenever I go to Cebu, I always fly! For international & domestic flights, you will be arriving in Mactan International Airport. Getting around Cebu is quite easy. 2 major mode of transportations. Public Jeepneys & Taxi. Take a pick. Or you can ask your hotel for an airport transfer option.

I said before "whenever I go to Cebu". Yes, I've been to Cebu countless of times but not for holiday. My landing in Cebu City is just for transit. I usually stay inside the airport for some 3 or 4 hrs before flying off to other parts of the country.

WHERE TO STAY?!?!

The first time me and my bf stayed at Cebu, we stayed at The Holiday Spa Hotel located at Banilad, Cebu City. This is actually quite a convenient location. Essentially near Ayala Mall and accessible to the airport and the city.

There are loads of hotels all around Cebu. But seriously, while on vacation, hotel accommodation is not that much of importance simply because you do not stay inside your room the entire day!

This hotel is nice and comfy enough for us. Location worked quite well for us. A walking distance from The Distillery where we spent our night drinking.

WHAT TO DO 1 NIGHT STAY IN CEBU???

When in Cebu just for a day, it is best to visit historic places and experience SuTuKiL. Yes!! Cebu boasts a lot of activities and places to go. There's the infamous Sinulog Festival held every january of the year. It's Cebu's major festival that flocks from all over Philippines and from other countries visits Cebu to witness this colorful festival. Unfortunately for us, we did not go there during Sinulog.

So what did we do in Cebu???

You basically can't visit a lot of places in just one day. And Cebu being almost like the crowded Manila, we didn't bother going around far. So we went to visit one famous tourist spot that is The Magellan's Cross.

A Christian Cross commissioned by the Portuguese/Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan upon his arrival in Cebu on April 1521.

Lapu-Lapu Shrine. I've been here some 19 or 20 years ago. Yup! Way back in time. 20 years later, the Shrine has been improved a lot.

The Lapu-Lapu statue is a 20ft bronze statue in Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan Cebu in honor of Datu Lapu-Lapu who in history defeated Magellan during the Battle of Mactan.

BASILICA DEL STO. NIÑO CHURCH. One of the oldest church in the Philippines. Another historic place full of colors. A walking distance from the Magellan's Cross.

WHERE TO EAT?!?!

When in Cebu, it's the best to eat their SuTuKiL a short term for (SUGBA, TULA, KILAW) a type of cooking in many Filipino household. Sugba = grill. Tula = Fish Soup. Kilaw = Fish eaten raw. But ofcourse, there are other things to eat aside from this trio. There are loads of Sutukil restaurants around Mactan Area. Can be quite expensive though.

Salo-Salo SuTuKiL Restaurant. Located in Mactan, Cebu City.

The place was a typical sutukil restaurant. By the sea. Fresh seafood by the entrance to choose from. You pick whatever you want, how many kilo you want, tell them how you want each to be cooked and enjoy your food. That simple concept. But be wise. Places like this has too many tricks up their sleeves most especially to foreigners. Always ask how much the price is. Take note on that. Or be surprised once you pick up the bill.

Anyways, we had such an awesome time eating. Fresh seafood and the sea breeze! It was a pretty hot day and a nice cold coke was really what I just needed.

Food was awesome! Fresh as it could ever be. Hmmmm... I had too much.!!

Aside from here there are lots of places to visit in Cebu. The old town of Colon St., Cebu City. Fort San Pedro, Taoist Temple and many more that you can Google.

But as for me and bf, this day is enough. the next time we will visit Cebu, we will be heading to Moalboal and Camotes Island.
AYALA
With Shoebe at Ayala Mall enjoying Gelato!
There! Cebu City in 1 day. Oh! Most of the time we took Cab going around Cebu. We can't risk getting lost in this big city uder 24hrs. Hehe.. Plus we had to wake up 3am and head to the airport for our flight to the sunny island of Puerto Princesa, Palawan.!!

The only thing you need to prep up fro your budget is the Sutukil, hotel & cab fare. Magellan's Cross & Lapu-Lapu Shrine is for free!

Enjoy your trip my fellow Nomads!

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN TO LATELY?!?!

Much Love!
